Home Star Highlights
“The Home Star Energy Retrofit Act is a common sense bill that will create jobs, save consumers money, and strengthen our economy… I particularly want to thank Congressman Peter Welch of Vermont for all of his hard work on this issue. " - Statement from President Obama, May 6, 2010

Ending the War in Iraq
Congressman Welch is one of the leading opponents of the Iraq war in the U.S. House of Representatives. He vigorously opposed the war before it began and while serving in Congress has consistently supported efforts to end it. Congressman Welch has a 100 percent rating on Iraq war votes from Progressive Punch (www.progressivepunch.org ), a non-partisan searchable database of Congressional voting records from a progressive perspective. And Senator Russ Feingold, a leading war opponent in the U.S. Senate, identified Congressman Welch as one of 20 freshman House members who stood with him in support for immediate withdrawal of troops from Iraq.
Congressman Welch strongly believes that Congress must use the power of the purse to force a change of policy and end this war. He has voted six times to force the President to begin the redeployment of U.S. troops by a date certain, and nine times to deny the President blank-check funding for the war.
Congressman Welch has traveled to Iraq twice to meet with Vermont troops serving in the region, meet with U.S. military and civilian leadership, oversee U.S. taxpayer-funded reconstruction projects, and investigate the growing crisis of displaced and refugee Iraqis.
Congressman Welch will continue to make ending the war in Iraq and bringing home our soldiers a top priority.
