Welch for U.S. House

Democrat Peter Welch of Hartland has proven himself a skilled legislator who has been effective from his first term in office pursuing legislation that reflects the interest of Vermonters and benefits the nation as a whole. More important, Welch has been diligent in keeping his constituents informed of what he does in Washington and why.

Welch has been a commuter representative, flying back from Washington when Congress is in session to spend many of his weekends in Vermont, talking to Vermonters about their concerns and the issues that come before the House.

Welch has taken ideas from Vermont on health care and energy, and seen them translated to legislation. He took the concerns of local shopkeepers and consumers about credit cards to Washington and saw them reflected in financial reform efforts. He is a major backer of pay-as-you-go government -- requiring Congress to find a way to pay for programs before approving them.

For continuing to listen to Vermonters and effectively represent their concerns in Washington, return Welch for another term in Congress.
